Irving Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Dennis Webb understands the competing interests in his city, known for its rich diversity, business-friendly environment and strategic location near the DFW International Airport.
We recommend Webb, 65, for reelection...With a career of service that includes the Planning and Zoning Commission and 30 years in the Grand Prairie Fire Department, Webb is an asset in Irving’s City Council.
Webb is a moderate and reliable voice on the Irving council....“Even if we disagree with each other, there is no tension,” he said.
Webb is focused on finding solutions to homelessness and has been busy reminding other council members that Irving is more than Las Colinas and Valley Ranch. As a pastor at Bear Creek Community Church, he has worked closely with homeless populations and told us the council has had trouble acknowledging the homeless problem. He said nonprofits like Many Helping Hands, which runs the only day shelter in the city, could benefit from local government funding to expand shelter capacity.
How to promote housing affordability is an ongoing debate all over North Texas. It’s a supply-and-demand issue, and city governments are struggling to find what their role should be. Webb said apartments help the city retain moderate-income residents like entry-level nurses, teachers and senior citizens.
Voters should reelect Webb.
